Days and hours

The museum opens at 9 am and closes at 7 pm, six days a week. The hours are the same from Tuesday to Sunday all year. The ticket office on the lower floor opens at 8.30 am and closes an hour before the museum, at 6 pm. The bookshop and café can be visited without a ticket; the café is open 8.30 am to 7 pm.

The two-hour entry slots

Entry runs on the hour, from 9 am to 5 pm, and each slot gives you two hours inside: a 9 am slot ends at 11 am, a 5 pm slot at 7 pm. The last slot starts at 5.45 pm and lasts 1 hour 15 minutes. Each slot holds at most 180 people. The museum lets visitors in only at the start of each hour for security, so a short queue forms at the door, and it moves quickly. There is no fast-track entrance for any ticket type.

Closed days and holidays

Monday is the weekly closing day, so a holiday that falls on a Monday, such as Easter Monday (6 April in 2026), is a closed day too. The only other closures are 25 December and 1 January. Other public holidays follow the normal Tuesday-to-Sunday hours. Three holidays are free-entry days: 25 April, 2 June and 4 November, alongside the first Sunday of every month. Free entry still needs a booked slot and the €2 fee (about $2), and those tickets open 10 days before.

Late openings

The museum's published hours list no evening openings: the latest way in is the 5.45 pm slot, and everyone is out by 7 pm. Last-minute tickets, when there are any, are sold at the ticket office from minute 20 of each hour and give 1 hour 30 minutes inside; the last one is at 5.50 pm, with one hour. Each person can buy at most 2, and none are sold on free days.

Best slot to book

For a full visit, book a two-hour slot: the 9 am slot starts your day early and leaves the afternoon free for the park. The 5.45 pm slot is the cheapest at €13 (about $15) but gives only 1 hour 15 minutes, which is tight for both floors. Every slot has the same 180-person cap, so no hour is more crowded inside than another; what differs is how fast each one sells. Check dates and compare reserved-entry options on the Borghese Gallery tickets page.
